Research

Research

The Department has an association with KRITH (The Kwazulu-Natal research institute for Tuberculosis and HIV) which is based at the Nelson R. Mandela Medical School in Umbilo. Within the Department there are many projects researching the role of surgery in inflammatory lung disease, particularly TB and HIV.

The Department also has an attachment to the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and have a combined research project investigating a possible role for mesenchymal stromal cells in the treatment of Tuberculosis.
